Malibu enjoying its own taste of Cuban by way of NoLiTa.
For nearly a decade now, we’ve been major fans of Café Habana and its hep-cat, porkpie-hatted owner Sean Meenan. Even when you can’t get a booth or a bar stool (which is pretty much always), you end up happy you came, uncaring about the wait out on the lively Elizabeth Street. You came for the frozen margaritas, the insanely flavorful black beans and yellow rice, the corn on the cob, and the just-right skirt steak (not to mention the gorgeous and fun waitresses). How lucky is Malibu. Aligned now with club impresario Randy Gerber, the new West Coast digs are more of a party scene, with night deejays hitting the vintage Latino vinyl, and a gorgeous old Havana vibe inside and out. But the bonus is that they serve food around the clock. Talk about a sobering last call spot before hitting the notorious D.U.I. hell known as the Pacific Coast Highway! Unheard of within the sleepy Malibu Limits, late night grub! We know where we’ll be going on our next business trip to L.A. For some advance photos of the new digs, go to: www.cafehabana.com
