The just-opened Thompson LES (Lower East Side) swimming pool bar is way more than 15 minutes of fun.
Pop in, as it were, to the Thompson LES hotel’s pool-and-bar scene open Tuesday-Sunday from 5pm. Providing a super-cool break from Gotham’s grind, and some peeks into the historic residential edifices it looks directly into off Allen Street, the minimalistic-chic watering hole is where you’ll find downtown locals and visiting lodgers mixing it up over specialty cocktails. If you’re a hotel guest you’ll have the added pleasure of diving to the pool’s bottom where you can get face time with Andy Warhol: George Malanga’s photolithograph centering the “cement pond” pays whimsical tribute to the Pop legend who proclaimed that “work” is everything (except for when he was playing at Studio 54). The pool terrace is open to guests from morning through 5pm, when the clothes come back on, and the pool bar opens to the public.
