Check in, drop out: This year’s desert spectacular runs over two lonnnnng weekends (and it’s never too late to cut work).
There’s one more week left of this year’s double-weekend-whammy Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which kicked off April 13th and is running over the long April 20th-22nd weekend, with headliners both done and still doing it such as Radiohead, Black Keys, Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg, The Shins, Bon Iver, Cat Power…as well as the return of Jarvis Cocker’s Pulp and ska kings Madness—beyond!
Festival passes start at $285. Er, yes, there will be scalpers (but we’re not advocating that!). While most hipstahs young and young at heart planned this venture for months now, we hear there’s still some rooms here and there, and many have taken the very astute move of renting a super-cool mid-century or ranch house from such ventures as Palmsprings rentals.com and the like. It beats sleeping in a trailer in the little Palm Springs sister town of Indio (which Robert Downey named his son after).
There are still about 50 of the 100 plus more bands to go. While some feel that the fest became a tad too Hollywood elite in the past couple years, we think that makes it only that much more fun. The people watching escalated to freaky-deaky. Here’s some streamed footage of this past weekend’s concerts: http://www.youtube.com/coachella
