American Exuberance displays many of Don and Mera Rubell’s new acquisitions by various contemporary American artists (all either U.S. citizens or residents) whose artwork examines cultural norms and values within the social context of our country. It’s easy to judge other nations, but this show takes an inward look into America, allowing viewers to ex cogitate the pros and cons of our own society — a comment on the ethnocentric tendencies of many individuals. With work from 64 artists (including John Miller, Matthew Barney, Cindy Sherman, John McAllister, Nate Lowman, and Charles Long) featured throughout the 28 galleries of the museum, the exhibit reflects a strong selection and the high stance the family continues to have as top-notch collectors.
