Thompson LES Brings on the Bromberg Boys

Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya Hits the Thompson Lower East Side.

Thompson Hotels and acclaimed restaurateurs Bruce and Eric Bromberg (of Blue Ribbon Restaurants fame) have expanded their culinary alliance by bringing Blue Ribbon’s authentic Japanese fare and Blue Ribbon favorites to the Lower East Side’s Thompson LES.

Located at 187 Orchard Street (on the second floor of the inn), Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya is now open nightly from 5pm until 2am. Beginning this summer they’ll be expanding service to include breakfast and lunch, as well as brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.

According to the news release, “Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya is a modern Japanese tavern, heavily inspired by the Blue Ribbon team’s recent culinary tour of Japan.  The restaurant features a 100-seat dining room with both traditional and communal tables, a bar and dining area as well as a second floor outdoor terrace overlooking Allen Street.  The terrace area is scheduled to be open this summer.

“The restaurant was designed in collaboration with Edward Asfour and Peter Guzy of AsfourGuzy Architects. The fifth Blue Ribbon Sushi is also the 12th collaboration between the Bromberg’s and AsfourGuzy Architects over a two-decade period of time.

The menu was developed in conjunction with Blue Ribbon Sushi partner & sushi master Toshi Ueki, and features delicacies flown in daily from the Sea of Japan, and the Pacific & Atlantic Oceans. The menu offers delicacies that are creatively and elegantly prepared, as well as reinterpreted traditional Japanese appetizers, yakitori and a wide array of entrees meant to be shared family style.  “Highlights include pork ribs, skewers and grilled and roast meats, along with Blue Ribbon’s now-legendary fried chicken, complemented by eight inventive fried rice specialties and an extensive wine and sake list, traditional Japanese shochu service, and signature Blue Ribbon cocktails.

Further elevating the Thompson LES guest experience, the 141-room hotel has also introduced Blue Ribbon menus for room service, as well as for the hotel’s array of hotspots, including the poolside lounge and Above Allen, a private outdoor terrace bar located on the seventh floor.
