Some say relax, we say break free: summer is for showing off and not giving a damn.
But you’ve got to do so in style – and you have to know where. Thus, we offer our insider’s guide to summer days & nights at Thompson Hotels around the world. Feast your eyes on our exclusive outdoor perches and dimly lit, luxurious hideaways and we promise, there will be eyes feasting on you. Period.
Nestled on a quiet, tree-lined street in NYC’s SoHo neighborhood sits the flagship of Thompson Hotels, 60 Thompson. On top? An open-air oasis that’ll redefine your notions of an outdoor space. But before we head up, we’re heading out for some shopping.
There’s nothing like Saturday afternoon shopping in SoHo, take our word for it. Speaking from experience, scoring the latest summer fashions goes far beyond the tourist-lined sidewalks of Fifth Avenue. If we’re going to be fighting the crowds (and the heat), we do so in the company of our favorite designers and trendy boutiques. Some of our favorites include Theory and John Varvatos on Spring Street, Helmut Lang on Mercer and Wink on Prince. We’re also guilty of some serious window-shopping at the multifaceted Opening Ceremony on Howard Street and Alexander Wang on Grand. But as they say, all good shopping must come to an end. After a long day of pounding the pavement and punishing that credit card (we all know it needs to be told every now and then), there’s no place we’d rather be than high above it all.
Now that we’re all dressed up, there’s only one place to go: A60. Ascending to the top of 60 Thompson is quick – thankfully – because the choice cocktails that we know are waiting for us challenge our patience. The doors open; hello Kittichai Lychee Martini. The sweet and refreshing blend of Skyy Vodka, coconut juice and fresh lychee flirts in our glass as we take in the unparalleled views. A blissful start to our evening, but don’t get too comfortable.
Outdoor dining on nights like these is why we love New York. The bamboo-lined terrace at Kittichai is a one-of-a-kind hideaway to put your Thai food cravings to rest. What to try? There’s a menu for that (literally). Let the prix fixe tasting menus take your taste buds for a ride.
Once the sun goes down and we’ve had our fill, it’s time to switch things up. We’re heading back upstairs to the second floor where Thom Bar awaits. Where the night goes from here, you’ll have to dream up for yourself.
