The Glamourai shoots her latest feature at Thompson LES.
Summer in the city is at times unbearable; in a concrete jungle, one longs desperately for reprieve. My favorite place to find it is at the Thompson LES ~ their pool scene really can’t be beat! That’s why, when I was looking into locations to shoot TheGlamourai.com‘s Olympic-timed Swim Week stories, the Thompson LES was my first and final choice.
I love that the pool there feels like a hidden gem ~ I always know I’ll run into friends, and yet it feels undiscovered, like an insider’s secret. Besides my own personal predilection, I knew it would make for a graphically arresting shoot location. I love the Andy Warhol tryptic on the floor of the pool, and used it as inspiration to build out a story that was all about pop-worthy colors and eye-catching, graphic imagery. I’m also crazy for the bold row of orange-upholstered lounge chairs, lined up like perfectly-bronzed bodies to salute the sun, and couldn’t wait to shoot gorgeous girls in slithering swimsuits against them. Everything about this spot feels so crisp and cool, which is all I long for on a sweltering summer day. And that is just the feeling I wanted to imbue in our images!
My references for the story included classic Pirelli calendars and vintage Sports Illustrated pin-ups. All I wanted to see was hot bodies and cooling water. I wanted the girls to be relaxed, so they’d give us shots that would sizzle! We enlisted the stunning Alex Rubio of Ford Models, and the inimitable Christina Caradona of the blog Trop Rouge as our bathing beauties, and the two took to the task like lizards in the sun. Lensed by my longtime collaborator Jeremy James, I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of the story. Flipping through the images is like being transported to the Thompson LES ~ firmly grounded in reality, but worlds away from real-life worries.
