Week Eight: Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel

Out There

Needless to say, it’s hot – but that’s not stopping us from enjoying ourselves.

Today’s jaunt is all about showing some skin, sipping cocktails and sun bathing in the epicenter of Hollywood glamour. We’re doing just as Marilyn Monroe would do, and looking just as good while doing it. It’s tops down, music up, destination: Hollywood Boulevard.

We’ve arrived. Towering at the base of the Hollywood Hills is the iconic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, and within, the sultry Tropicana pool and bar – our playground for the day. Once the car’s been handed-off to the valet, we’re checking in and heading to our room. As soon as we open the door to our Poolside Cabana room, we know we’ve made the right choice. A wall of retractable windows is all that’s separating us from the seductive oasis that surrounds the David Hockney pool. At this point, it’s only a matter of seconds before we’ll be occupying one of those tempting poolside loungers, cocktail in hand.

We’re already glowing from the sun’s blissful rays, so it’s time to order up a refreshing drink, or two (or three?). Tropicana’s Watermelon Mojito, made with Flor de Caña, watermelon, lime juice, simple syrup and mint, is first up on the tab and it’s the perfect accompaniment to our lazy day of lounging. We’re reluctant to move, but the persistent heat is all the motivation we need to get wet. Plus, we’ve been eyeing one of those brightly colored rafts floating our way. Cannonball, anyone?

Confession: we love red meat and rumors of the fare at 25 Degrees have left our mouths watering. We’re off to find out for ourselves just how juicy these burgers really are.  The decision is tough, and after a look through the menu we’re starting to realize that our eyes are about three times larger than our stomachs. Yet, we’ve decided. We’re going for the Number Three topped with Mezzo Secco Jack Cheese, green chili, chipotle and avocado, but that’s not all. We’re also adding french fries and onion rings to the table along with a few of their 10+ dipping sauces. And how do you top off a meal that’ll redefine your idea of a burger? A Guinness Milkshake, of course.

The night is young, so we’re retreating to our room for a quick recharge before the real party begins. Whether we’ll relax on our King-sized bed and it’s custom-made SFERRA linens, or step outside and enjoy the shade from our private lounge chaise we don’t know. But tonight’s going to be one to remember – that’s for certain.
