Holy Motors

Award-winning French filmmaker Léos Carax celebrates life in his brilliant and bizarre Holy Motors. Starring Denis Lavant as Monsieur Oscar, the film follows our hero on a typical day of work, which involves traveling around Paris in a limo as he carries out “assignments”. But these assignments aren’t your typical office fare — rather, you’ll see Oscar assuming different personas and jamming a lifetime of emotional highs and lows into the span of a couple hours. At times perplexing yet utterly riveting, the film demonstrates Carax’s mastery of the artform and the incredible versatility of his lead. Kylie Minogue and Eva Mendes also make savory cameos. We like to think of Holy Motors as the Swiss Army Knife of cinema: the film has such range and richness, it’s really the only one you need to go see in the theaters this year.
