On Thompson: Soho To-Do's

Culture

60 Thompson is our flagship for a reason. From cozy restaurants to high-end boutiques, Thompson St. is truly a one-stop-street for New Yorkers and visitors alike. “On Thompson” is a series featuring the restaurants, shops, bars, and galleries that make us proud to call Thompson Street our home.

Snack – 105 Thompson St

With only five tables this pint-sized Greek eatery packs in the flavor. Serving authentic Greek cuisine, like mousaka, tzatziki, and a mean Greek salad, along with an array of innovative sandwiches (think herb-braised yellowfin tuna with artichokes, tomatoes, cucumbers, and portobello mushrooms), this Thompson Street staple keeps our stomachs full with more than, well, just “snacks”.  Don’t let the lunch and weekend wait daunt you – the friendly and attentive staff turn over tables in a breeze and you will be enjoying scrumptious homemade baklava before you know it!

INA Women – 101 Thompson St

Coveting a pair of YSL heels designed by the legend himself? Vying to get that pair of designer jeans that just don’t fit anymore off your hands? INA Soho is your best bet.  Since opening in 1993, INA has curated an extensive collection of archival couture, hard to find seasonal garments, and one-of-a-kind sample pieces making it one of the most established designer consignment stores in New York City. INA, accepting consignment appointments seven days a week, has new inventory daily – making it a thrilling shopping experience each and every time. So come in and swap out that 90’s metallic-lapse-in-judgment for something new (or should we say old?) A win-win situation for all!

Kee’s Chocolates SoHo – 80 Thompson St

Kee Ling Tong opened Kee’s Chocolates in 2002 with one objective in mind: to provide the finest handmade chocolates to downtown Manhattan. She succeeded and located only a hop and skip away from 60 Thompson, we’ve been salivating the fact ever since. Sexy crème brulee bon-bons, indulgent black sesame truffles, decadent champagne-filled dark chocolate ganache – Kee whips up fresh seasonal flavors daily at her “chocolate grail” heralded by cacao connoisseurs globally.  For the chocolate disinclined, Kee’s unique macaroon offerings and recent architecturally stunning interior redesign are worth a visit within themselves. Try one of Kee’s extra-creamy truffles while you’re at it. You might just be converted.

Silver Lining Opticians – 92 Thompson St

Pool hall or optician?  Don’t let the game table fool you. Beyond the besiege of billiard balls you will find what you came looking for – a well-curated selection of the finest optical brands and largest collection of unused vintage eyewear in New York.  Founded by a licensed optician and a purveyor of vintage eyewear, Silver Lining Opticians provides high quality frames and lenses to a high profile clientele. Did you happen to notice Jay-Z’s optics at this year’s Inauguration? They were from Silver Lining. And even if they were not able to shade his wife’s apparent lip-synching, Silver Lining’s collection of unique and one-of-a-kind eyewear is good enough for us.
