Shiver Me Innards!

Johnny Depp corrals an A-list of B-sotted crooners for his salty sophomore follow-up to 2006’s Rogue’s Gallery. CD of the week, indeed.

Tom Waits, Keith Richards, and Shane MacGowan unofficially helm the just-released seafaring rudder of “Son of Rogue’s Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chaneys,” the mastermind of Johnny Depp and “Pirates of the Caribbean” director Gore Verbinski. Along for the ride are such major performers as Patti Smith, Iggy Pop and Macy Gray, with Courtney Love and Michael Stipe dueting. (Somehow Tim Robbins always wiggles his way into these cool collaborations–must be a nice guy?)

The original Rogue’s Gallery lineup included, duh, Nick Cave, Lucinda Willliams, Richard Thompson, and Bryan Ferry. Having been huge fans of The Kingston Trio since childhood, this warms the cockles in our hearts. The CD’s available this week.
