Photographer-music videomaker Samuel Bayer reveals nudes portrait show.

Through April 27th, the Ace Gallery in Beverly Hills is showcasing full-scale black-and-white nudes photographed by award-winning music-video director Samuel Bayer (Nirvana, Green Day, Justin Timberlake), in his first photo exhibition entitled “Diptychs & Triptychs.”

The strikingly gorgeous subjects are models he has worked with over the years, shot starkly and sans inhibition, from head to toe (with little, well nothing actually, below). We can’t show them here, even though they are “art,” but you can see all 16 of the images on the gallery website (which, a bit racily, offers “enlarge size” for up-close-and-personal of the faces and fragmented body parts here.

They’ll be comparisons to Helmut Newton, but we see more of Richard Burbridge–freckles, goosebumps, and all–at play here. There’s voyeurism, sure, or scopophilia, if you prefer, but they’re pretty astounding in all their towering beauty. Bayer says they’re about “female empowerment.” You be the judge.

The Museum of Modern Art in New York City has his film/video work on permanent exhibit.

Ace Gallery is located at 5514 Wilshire Blvd., 323.935.3388.
