BLAG began as a fanzine in 1992, edited and published by British twins Sarah J. and Sally A. Edwards. The then two hungry art school students – with part-time job wages and fake IDs in hand, set out on a journey to discover exciting new talents. The duo quickly transformed the publication into a luxe glossy based in London known for its uncompromising quality, innovative spirit and unconventional business model. Lauded for its cutting-edge influence and access to luminaries such as the Beastie Boys, OutKast, Adrien Brody, N*E*R*D, James McAvoy, Queens of the Stone Age and Tom Hardy, BLAG earned a cult-like following and a reputation for repositioning brands via creative concepts in film, photography and architecture to opinion forming launch events and as opening DJs for the likes of N*E*R*D and the Foo Fighters. Design & Art Direction is handled by Sally; Sarah is the Photographer. Collectively they write and edit.
Still purely owned and run by Sally and Sarah, 2013 marks the 21st Birthday of BLAG where it is evolving encompassing a clothing label, with the BLAG girls designing and working with solid, talented connections to create specific ranges. The first releases are with actor, Tom Hardy and Tom Meighan, singer of UK heavyweight band, Kasabian. Since its inception 21 years ago, BLAG has been and continues to be a point of reference for sophisticated rebels and savvy individuals.
As part of the very special 21st Birthday Edition, Sally and Sarah are inviting creatives to reserve their copy in advance and contribute a piece inspired by a brief based on #Improvise and #Escapism. Works will be judged by super architect, Ben Van Berkel and US top chef, Michael Voltaggio. The top 10 will feature in the 21st Birthday print and App editions and be exhibited at Belgraves, A Thompson Hotel in London.
