Save the Date: New Orleans’s notoriously-awesome Tales of the Cocktail (and stop in to Café Atchafalya for its green-tomato Bloody Mary mix)!
From July 17th to 21st, the craft cocktail crowd from around the world fall upon New Orleans for THE only festival one must attend in the sexy-stormy but sweltering city. It’s a refresher course to beat all. Buy tickets now and hit the historic Hotel Monteleone (pictured), the ground zero for it all.
While there, you’ll have to grab a stool at the revolving Carousel Bar inside for its signature drink, the milk-shake-like Ramos’ Gin Fizz (orange flower, egg, gin, bliss). But make sure you break out of the French Quarter and head for the ultimate hangover cure, heading uptown to the Irish Channel neighborhood on the weekend, to make you own brunch-time Blood Mary at Atchafalya Restaurant.
They pickle all their own mean beans and green-market garnishes, and have a killer homemade mix. But we’re all about the new green tomato mix. A shot or two of it, mixed with the muddy regular stew, adds a lovely celery-like essence to it all. A meal unto itself, and the jazz and brunch dishes are some of the best in town. Atchafalya, one of the destination gastronaut gems in a city of many, is famous to locals for its contemporary Creole cuisine, with the kitchen now helmed by the great Chef Christopher Lynch.
