French couture king honored in a retrospective at Brooklyn Museum.
You only need to hop over one borough to be transported into the world of legendary French couturier and pret-a-porter master Jean Paul Gaultier, when he opened a seven-part retrospective at the Brooklyn Museum.
Centered on themes ranging from street style to cinema, the multimedia show traces Gaultier’s career from its start in the 1970s to his most recent collections. More than 140 couture and ready-to-wear looks will be displayed on mannequins with interactive audiovisual projections for faces, displayed among an extensive collection of accessories, sketches, editorial photography, runway show video and stills and documentation of Gaultier’s singular style in pop culture over the last four decades.
“The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk” runs now-February 23, 2014. You better work.
