Culture Watch: Constellation

Opened in April 2013, Constellation brings a fresh perspective to Chicago’s diverse music scene with founder/drummer/composer Mike Reed’s progressive vision blending jazz, improvisation, and contemporary classical musical genres. The two studios host a variety of acts in a variety of formats, whether seated around a central stage in the smaller Studio B, up on stage for crowds ranging from 40-100 people, or as part of dance parties large or small.

Upcoming shows include the performative comix reading series, Brain Frame 16, complete with “projections, performance, music, noise, props, costumes, horror, humor, and the avant-garde,” and artist Elliott Cole, who, with a trio of percussionists, puts a hip-hop and reggae twist on the ancient art of epic song, singing a part of the Ramayana. thompson-chi-constellation-2
