Toronto’s snack counter roll-out continues with Rose City Kitchen opening at the end of the month on Queen West. In collaboration with Shontelle Pinch of the popular fancier-than-usual food truck duo Gourmet Bitches, Rose City—another name for Petra—seeks to reimagine traditional Middle-Eastern shawarma and Mediterranean snack food.
The region inspiring the spot’s cuisine marks the international spice-route intersection of the cultures of Greece, Rome, Syria, Arabia, and Egypt, so RCK brings together this rich mosaic of flavors in signature sandwiches.
They’re ditching the traditional spit for hygiene reasons, and swapping out preservative-laden pitas for fresh, homemade with whole wheat and gluten-free options. Stay tuned in coming weeks as the cozy, 15-seat space comes together to open its doors.
