The xx touches down on the Armory for a residency of ultra-intimate, 40-fan shows
One hears of “intimate” venues all the time, but the Park Avenue Armory, with its massive, sprawling rafters, surely isn’t usually one of them. Hip-hop trio the xx aims to shrink the cavernous space March 19th-29th with a series of 25 concerts capped out at 40-person audiences for each show. In 11 days the band will play 2-3 gigs per night in a site-specific environment set up within the Wade Thompson Drill Hall. Promising characteristically radical adventures in sound, coupled with exploration of light and dark, the show’s choreography is sure to turn the traditional concert on its head.
Not surprisingly, the shows sold out quickly, but there’s a place to try your luck (and get more information) on the Armory website.
