Out On the Town With One of L.A.’s Finest
Lake boutique owner Mellisa Lovoy knows clothes. Turns out she’s got killer taste in healthy juice hideaways, vintage market hidden gems, and oyster bars, too.
We hopped coasts for the view from her sunlit Silver Lake HQ. Here are her local and L.A. picks.
Silver Lake Reservoir
Taking a walk there a great way to begin the day: enjoying the beautiful surroundings, blue skies and sunny weather (hopefully, with a bit of a breeze.)
After working up a sweat, I like to replenish, L.A. style, with a raw cold pressed organic juice from The Juice in Atwater Village. Need a little something extra? They’ll add frozen almond milk and banana to turn your juice into a rich smoothie.
Breakfast at Sqirl
Delicious, healthy, and homemade jams to boot (think strawberry and rose geranium). Plus, their hot tea with homemade almond milk is both delicious and picture perfect served from a glass carafe.
South Pasadena Farmers Market (http://
I stop here on Thursdays to pick up local organic fruit, avocados, and delicious homemake scones in flavors like butter milk and green tea. I always have to grab some Dave’s Korean, too. Black bean tempeh and seaweed salad are the way to go! http://www.yelp.com/biz/
Barnsdall Art Park
Their wine tastings are the place to be come Friday summer evenings. (http://www.barnsdall.org/
events/friday-night-wine- tastings/) Between 360 degree views of the city and covering an entire hilltop, this is the best place to come meet friends, let the kids run free, and eat from great local food trucks. My favorite is Heirloom L.A. (http://heirloomla.com/)
If you’re having a late night, visit the great upstairs bar for delicious oysters and the best Silver Lake vibe going, welcoming to everyone and just hip enough. (http://www.leoysterbar.com/)
Of course, when I’m out and about, I love to take a peek at other amazing shops in LA…Nickey Kehoe NK Shop is so inspiring for interiors, I love everything! Tavin Boutique in Echo Park has beautiful vintage dress finds. My friend Beatrice Valenzuela’s shop has the most comfortable handmade shoes, and of course my own store, Lake, is where most of my wardrobe comes from!
