Exploring Chicago’s Architectural progress
What does a city’s buildings say about its inhabitants?
Chicagoisms, on show through January 4th, 2015 at the Art Institute of Chicago tries to answer this very question. The extensively researched exhibition reveals the innovations at the heart of Chicago’s often-controversial structural history. Furthermore, it celebrates the city that historically embraced the newest architecture developments at a time when other cities were being conservative.
The show does a great job of bringing in current architects and designers to explain the significance of the past on the present shape and spirit of the city. Amazing black and white photography from the 1940s and 50s, in particular, will also blow you away.
