Back to nature
Luxuriate in the lush tropical landscape at The Preston B. Bird/Mary Heinlein, Fruit & Spice Park – the only tropical botanical garden of its kind in the United States. The unique 37-acre tropical climate can be found nowhere else in the continental U.S. and hosts over 500 varieties of fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, and nuts, and other important plant specimens from around the world. The park showcases 160 varieties of mango, 75 varieties of bananas, 70 bamboo varieties, and numerous other exotic edibles.
Pack a picnic or eat at their organic cafe. If you can’t make it to Miami you can make Miami come to you by making their recipe for banana salsa and chips. Bonus tip: try the salsa with fresh grilled fish and chicken.
2 cups Banana, sliced
¼ cup Red Bell Pepper, diced
¼ cup Yellow Bell Pepper, diced
2 Tbsp. Cilantro, chopped
1 Jalapeno Pepper, seeded and diced
1 Tbsp. Brown Sugar
Salt & Pepper to taste
Combine all ingredients: adjust seasoning to taste. Prepare a least one hour in advance and keep chilled. Use less Jalapeño pepper if it is too hot! Serve with tortilla chips.
