Charles Ray: A Retrospective
Very few artists are profound enough to get a mid-career retrospective at a major art institution like the Art Institute of Chicago—Los Angeles-based sculptor Charles Ray is one such talent.
In the show Charles Ray: Sculpture, 1997-2014 many of his most iconic works fill the second floor of the Modern Wing of the museum and many more flow into the museum’s South Garden. Some 19 works, not only reveal his preoccupation with the figure, but also his observations of the natural world, his play on texture and the unexpected beauty found in the aftermath of disaster. Through October 4th.
