Pinks of every hue
For New Yorkers the hallmark of spring is witnessing the blossoming trees all over the city. This dramatic transition of seasons is marked most spectacularly at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s flowering Cherry Orchard when they celebrate the end of Hanami (the Japanese seasonal tradition of blossom appreciation) in a two-day fair April 30th–May 1st. The festival includes a cosplay fashion show, bands playing traditional tunes, dance performances and, of course, all those fluttering pink-and-white petals. If you can’t make it to the gardens over that weekend, there’s no need to panic: you can still catch the pretty blooms. The gardens are open every day except Monday. You can also check to see which trees are in bloom on the Cherry Watch map here.
