Public Art, Community Space, and Urban Engagement at Socrates Sculpture Park
What do a salvaged piano harp, a self-sustaining forest garden, and a shipping container-cum-movie theater have in common? They’re all included in artworks on view at Socrates Sculpture Park in Queens.
Pack a picnic blanket, a snack, and some sunglasses and head to the park. Enjoy the quiet green space along the river and check out the 30th anniversary show, LANDMARK, a special series of artist commissions that physically and symbolically transform the land. Work by prominent artists including Hank Willis Thomas and Meg Webster reinvigorate possibilities for public sculpture. Plus: don’t miss the outdoor cinema in the evenings.
Socrates Sculpture Park is open everyday from 10:00AM to sunset. If you’d like to extend your stay in Queens and see more art, hop on the LIC Art Bus to shuttle to the Noguchi Museum, SculputreCenter, and MoMA PS1. Find the bus schedule here.
