The Connoisseur of King County
Want to know about the best neighborhoods in Seattle? What activities you can probably skip on a quick trip? Thompson Seattle‘s beloved concierge, Paul, has all the answers at his fingertips – so we sat down with him at Scout PNW, the hotel’s restaurant, to get the scoop.
How long have you lived here?
I’m a PNW native but I’ve lived in Seattle for over 15 years and have been a concierge for 10.
What’s your favorite place to send guests within 10 minutes of the hotel?
For dining, it’s Cinqueterre: a mash-up of Seattle meets Miami, via Italy. For activities, the Olympic Sculpture Park or a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island.
Where do you tell people not to go?
I usually suggest people don’t take the duck tours or Emerald City trolley tours: they’re not comprehensive enough.
What’s your favorite neighborhood in Seattle to suggest to people looking to get beyond downtown?
Georgetown if they can swing it: it’s the last vestige of an old Seattle spirit: cafes, great vintage stores…
What’s the most frequently asked question you receive?
Besides “where’s the restroom,” definitely “so, what should we do today?”
