Celebrate a Hermit… By Going Outside
According to the literature, Saint Anthony lived out in the Egyptian desert on bread and water, wore an animal hide, and refused to bathe. Yet, the hermit was best known, far and wide, for his wisdom. He believed that faith was more important than any argument. Anthony also literally wrestled with the devil—and came out okay.
Celebrate the Feast Day of San Antonio de Abad (Saint Anthony the Abbot) on January 17th. Watch out for bonfires (or “hogueras”) in the streets. Processions and chances to eat, drink, and dance with the community abound. If you’re going to church, bring along Fido—on this holiday, animals are allowed to enter.
