Evening with an Astrophysicist
Scientists can get a bad rap. Unfortunate pop culture portrayals often paint them as nerdy misfits (The Big Bang Theory), power-hungry men (Frankenstein), or disheveled and a little nuts (Back to the Future). They’ve also developed a reputation for speaking about complex issues in a way no layman can understand.
Please, let Neil deGrasse Tyson disavow all these stereotypes. One of America’s foremost astrophysicists, he’ll speak at Andrew Jackson Theater on June 14. If you haven’t already checked out his books, which clarify complicated technical issues (just look at the titles: Astrophysics for People in a Hurry, Welcome to the Universe), we suggest you start now. Watch him talk about the cosmos and suddenly, your concern for the dishes you left in the sink / the fight you had with your spouse / the mistake you made earlier at work might just fade from thought.
