Sangria in the Park
Ask ten people for a sangria recipe and you’re liable to receive ten very different responses. The versatile beverage has come to encompass most recipes that call for liquor, large pitchers, and chunks of fruit. Recently, Food & Wine created a slideshow of sangria recipes that spanned Riesling-based sangria with lychees, to hard cider sangria, to a St-Germain-spike sangria. So much variety, so little time!
The Sangria Festival on August 20th, however, helps curb beverage FOMO by offering patrons the opportunity to sample a variety of blends by local bartenders. Located in Humboldt Park, the celebration will also feature live music, flamenco dancers, and a paint & sip lounge where you can create a masterpiece while tipsy, under the instruction of skilled artists. Of course, sangria always tastes better when paired with food, and the organizers won’t let the crowd go hungry. Food stations will offer bites and plates from tacos to flan, skewers to paella. Boutiques are on hand selling jewelry and more, while the game area offers favorites such as ping pong and Jenga for those who need even more stimulation.
