A Very Tasteful Awards Ceremony
Who needs a red carpet? We think the best awards ceremonies are much more democratic, casual affairs that feature food way fresher than whatever you can find on catering trays. Passed hors d’oeuvres are overrated.
If you’re of the same mind, check out The Vendy Awards at Governor’s Island on September 16th, the first street-food competition series in the United States. Public nominations determine which vendors compete for five separate titles: Best Rookie, Best Market Vendor, Best Dessert Vendor, Bad Hombres, and the Vendy Cup. About that second to last title…during Donald Trump’s campaign, one of his surrogates warned that there would be “taco trucks on every corner” if he wasn’t elected, disparaging Latino immigrants. This category seeks to celebrate them instead, and names the best Latino food vendor.
This year, enjoy churros from Dulcinea, homemade artisanal Twinkies from Jae NYC Eats, cone-shaped sandwiches from Tramezzini New York, Malaysian plates from The Malaysian Project, gourmet French toast sandwiches from Stuf’d, and much more.
