Are you a birder? You’re not alone. Writer Jonathan Franzen, President Jimmy Carter, and even Beatle Paul McCartney have proclaimed their love for tracking birds. Bird watching is like a treasure hunt, with gorgeous animals coming into view for those who know how to look. It’s an exercise in patience with rewards in the form of fleeting natural beauty.
If you’re an Audubon enthusiast, visit the Xaman-Ha Bird Sanctuary. You’ll see indigenous animals hanging in their natural habitats. Walk past pink flamingos and scope parrots and pelicans. Ibises, egrets, and herons abound. If you’re lucky, you may even see some toucans. Don’t forget your camera.
