Fit for a Saint

Dancing in the Streets

Give any thought to how Cabo San Lucas got its name? “Cabo San Lucas” actually means “Cape of Saint Luke.” Luke, the area’s patron saint, is also patron saint of the arts, and is often portrayed with pen in hand. (He recorded the third Gospel.) Celebrate Saint Luke on October 18th, his designated feast day. Special events, dancing in the streets, and music add to the festivities.

If you won’t make it to Cabo until later in October, you’ll have another chance to take part in a city-wide celebration: Halloween. Instead of pleading “Trick or Treat,” locals say, “Queremos Halloween!” (we want Halloween). Costumed supplicants fill the streets. Bars, restaurants, and nightclubs will host themed events and specials.
