When one of New York’s top chefs decides to open a donut shop, you know you’re in for something special. Du’s Donuts, which just inaugurated its second location in Soho, brings the magic of Chef Wylie Dufresne to the breakfast (or anytime) classic. Dufresne may be best known for his innovative cuisine at the city’s former wd~50, where dishes such as licorice-flavored turbot and butternut squash with tapioca and earl grey were par for the course.
His new shop (the first one opened in Williamsburg last spring) leans into exciting tastes as well. On the revolving menu on any given day you might find flavors such as brown butter key lime, carrot cake, banana malt, pear clove, or espresso cardamom. Our best advice: get there early. The shop closes when the donuts sell out. You don’t want to be the one who showed up too late to enjoy these perfect, cake-like pastries.
