On (and Off) the Catwalk

Flashing lights! Photographers chasing celebrities down the street! Yep, Fashion Week is nigh. From February 8th to 16th, designers from Tom Ford to Jeremy Scott, Raf Simons to Alexander Wang will exhibit their newest collections at venues around the city. To see the full lineup, check out the New York Fashion Week calendar. (And if you manage to get into the Wang show—his last-ever on the February roster— kudos to you.) If you can’t get into a show, the people watching is still stellar.

If you’re more interested in finding clothes now, hit a shop where young city designers sell their garments:

Kirna Zabête is a purveyor of hip constructions (oversized outwear, cool separates) by Queens native Sandy Liang, who keeps her own basement studio on the Lower East Side.

At Concrete + Water, Ellen Van Dusen exhibits her colorful, patterned wares. Inspired by fine art and design, her blocky and vibrant tunic dresses will brighten a winter day.

At Gentry, you’ll find threads by Abdul Abasi and Greg Rosborough, known for making hip professional clothing. The 2017 LVMH Young Designer Prize nominees are known in particular for their tailored menswear.
