The Famed Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrors Hits Art Gallery of Ontario
Few contemporary artists have captured the public’s imagination like Yayoi Kusama. Born in 1929, the Japanese artist has become famous for her “infinity rooms” and polka-dot filled installations. They’re both Instagram-friendly and provocative: Kusama’s mirror- and pumpkin-filled spaces explore her own fraught psychology.
The Art Gallery of Ontario serves as Canada’s only venue for Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors. The expansive show features six mirror rooms: kaleidoscopic environments that viewers can enter one-at-a-time. Imaginative, colorful recent paintings are also on view, as well as works on paper and soft sculptures. Don’t miss Life (Repetitive Vision), which consists of a field of soft tentacle forms rising from the ground. In Narcissus Garden, find a room filled with reflective silver balls that speak to life in our age of selfies.
