A Very Belgian Breakfast
’Tis the era for inventive croissants. If Dominique Ansel forever revolutionized the pastry when he introduced the cronut, Chicago’s Hendrickx Bakery, located right around the corner from Thompson Chicago is picking up where he left off. Here, you’ll find the CROIZĀNG, filled with chocolate ganache and heavily dusted with cocoa powder. Inspired by China’s super chocolate-y Zāng Zāng Bāo, or Dirty Dirty Bun, the CROIZĀNG leaves your face just as messy (a point of pride). If you’re looking for something less likely to stain your white clothing, try the bacon- Gruyère croissant—just as decadent, but with some protein thrown in. These are just the new options: croissants come in flavors including pistachio, almond, cherry, and more.
It’s not just the croissants, though, that earned this Belgian Bread Crafter its good name. The bakery offers phenomenal breads for all palates—from brioche to challah, even catering to the gluten-free set. Tartelettes and other continental sweets look beautiful on any table. Visit on the weekends and until 2pm, enjoying Belgian waffles and crepes for brunch.
