Not So Heavenly Creatures

The view from the Met’s rooftop is worth the trip alone. But you make it extra special by catching artist Huma Bhabha talk about her site-specific installation, We Come In Peace. Using found materials (which were then cast in bronze), Bhabha has created two larger-than-life creatures straight out of a science-fiction dreamscape. While one of her figures stands tall, recalling the Gorgons in the Greek and Roman Wing downstairs, the other prays at its feet. Vaguely humanoid, her sculptures loom over the rooftop, which is an otherwise very picturesque and not-at-all-menacing place to enjoy a cocktail from the Met’s rooftop bar.

Hear Bhabha talk about the balance of power between her two sculptures and the influence and interplay of colonialism, war, and aliens in her work on July 13th. Running as part of the MetFridays series. The talk begins at 6:30pm and the museum is open until 9pm.
