Fireworks, Sports, and Pirates
Seemingly every event worth attending in Seattle this summer is a part of Seafair, which has run annually since 1950. From July 4th fireworks at Gas Works Park to hydroplane racing, triathlons, and parades, the festival spans ten whopping weeks and touches more than two million people through 75 (often community-organized) events.
Must-experience July highlights include: pirates! On July 7th, a crew of cut-throats will storm Alki Beach. On July 14th, Green Lake will host the Seafair Milk Carton Derby, opening up the waters to a fleet of schooners, yachts, and skiffs constructed entirely from, you guessed it, milk cartons. Perhaps you like the idea of running (or watching other people run) through downtown sans traffic, in which case the Torchlight 5k (or 8k) on July 28th might be up your alley.
A list of all the Seafair events can be found here.
