Untouched Beauty Near La Paz
Balandra is a secluded beach where famed maritime photographer Jacques Cousteau did most of his filming. Picture white sand, implausibly turquoise waters, an iconic mushroom-shaped rock, and nothing but cliffs on the horizon. It’s regularly voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and is like no other in Baja.
This is an option for when you’re seeking adventure (and a day trip), as Balandra is located a few minutes north of La Paz. It’s worth the journey: in 2008, the secluded bay was granted protected status to prevent development. As a result, the pristine white sand beach is untouched and serene. The shape of the bay provides security from the open ocean and guarantees perfect swimming conditions.
