A Month of Art
Although New York’s culture scene doesn’t have an offseason, January is one of the best times of year to enjoy music, dance, and theater in the city. With over 1,500 events, JanArtsNYC is a month-long celebration of NYC’s unparalleled art scene and a collaboration between many independent festivals, venues, and artists.
JanArtsNYC includes the 18th annual Winter Jazzfest, taking place in clubs all over the city and featuring DJ sets from Gilles Petersen and Medeski Martin & Wood in concert. Prototype, a festival of musical theater, aims to shift perceptions of opera by presenting new and innovative works.
Protoype will include the American premier of 4.48 Psychosis, an operatic interpretation of the playwright Sarah Kane’s final work, the same production which opened at the London Opera House to rave reviews. Prefer to support emerging arts? DirectorFest is the only festival in the U.S. dedicated to exploring the art of directing. Its alumni include dozens of Tony Award winners.
