Forever an Icon
One of the most recognizable artists of the 20th century, Andy Warhol challenged the idea of what art could be. Through commercial illustration and iconic pop masterpieces, he propelled the use of non-traditional art-making techniques. More than anything, he understood the power of images in contemporary life—a vision that becomes more prescient with each passing year.
From A to B and Back Again is the first major retrospective of Warhol’s work by an American institution since 1989. With over 350 objects of art, many of which are assembled here together for the first time, the show is the largest monographic exhibition at the Whitney’s new location to date. The exhibition presents prints, paintings, experimental films, and works in other mediums, and includes a special focus on Warhol’s embrace of abstraction in the later stage of his career.
