The Ancient and Modern
The Huichol people have made an outsize contribution to Mexico’s artistic culture—their traditional beadwork is seen all over the country and abroad. Until recently, this community did not have an alphabet or written history, instead preserving their traditions through art. They practice the same crafts and traditions today as they have for centuries and continue to live from the land in the way of their ancestors.
You can help support the community—and take home a beautiful object—at The Art Gallery of Tierra Huichol. Every item sold at the gallery is handcrafted, guaranteeing a truly unique souvenir. Animals and cosmological symbols make a frequent appearance in the beading work, paintings, and sculptures on offer. Beyond their status as decorative objects, the work often has spiritual significance, making these truly exceptional souvenirs.
