Manhattan’s Best Side
The skyline of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty are perhaps most beautiful when seen from afar—or when flying through the air at 21 miles per hour. For a superhero-like view of the city, head to Governors Island: a 300-foot zip wire just opened. With a maximum height of 35 feet, it provides just the right amount of adrenaline for a sunny afternoon.
To take in the views and the open air in a more relaxing way, rent a bike and enjoy seven miles of car-free bike paths. Stroll over the island’s hilly banks, relax in one of the 50 hammocks in the grove, or spend a quiet moment in one of the iconic red Adirondack chairs dotted around. Since the city took over this former military space, they’ve designed it to provide a respite from urban bustle. As the sun comes out and the spring buds bloom, now’s the time to enjoy.
