Festive Ways to Drink This Spring

Food & Drink

Time to Celebrate

After such a long winter, it’s clear that all Chi-town wants to do is celebrate with a drink. The proof? The number of drinking festivals in May.

Lincoln Park Wine Fest transforms Jonquil Park into a festival of wineries from Europe, South America, and the U.S., all of whom will be serving flights and samples. Tasting tickets provide 12 standard tastings. May 17-19.

Dovetail Brewing and Beygl Brewing Company co-host Mayfestiversary, a good old-fashioned block party on the weekend of May 26. Both days will have live music, food trucks, and lambic-style taste testing, as well as more the sours, Rauchbiers, and lagers Dovetail is known for.

Fulton Market hosts The WhiskeyX on May 31st, a traveling festival of over 60 vendors of scotch, bourbon, rye, Irish, and “North American” whiskeys, the latter being a hybrid style which mixes up the grain ratios in a way which doesn’t conform to rye or bourbon. Distilleries such as Widow Jane and Whistlepig will be in attendance, as well as bigger names you might expect.

Last but not least, head to Lincoln Square for Maifest. An annual tradition in both Germany and Chicago, Maifest involves drinking a lot of pilsner to celebrate the arrival of Spring. Join in the Gemütlichkeit on May 30th to June 2nd.
