Golf “Fore” Everyone
Twenty minutes from Thompson Playa del Carmen, extending along several gorgeous miles of ocean, you’ll find the only PGA golf course outside of the U.S. and Canada. Needless to say, perhaps, it’s beautiful—the brainchild of legendary Australian golfer Greg Norman, former world number one and winner of 88 championships. And it’s easy to see why he chose Playa for this project. Aptly named El Cameleon, the par 72 course features three diverse ecosystems—tropical Mayan jungle, luscious mangroves, and white sand beach.
Don’t let Norman’s credentials put you off: the course is designed for maximum “playability” meaning that pros and amateurs alike can enjoy the green. With snacks and drinks on hand, you’ll experience some of the best service and views in the region, and the Casa Club dining room overlooking the finishing hole serves fine cuisine for when you’re done. Even if you end up in the bunkers, the view from the beach is so spectacular you won’t even mind.
