A Timely Comedy
Yussef El Guindi is widely recognized as one of the most talented playwrights and authors of our age. A prolific artist, his work chronicles modern culture and its discontents, often through dark humor. His latest play, People of the Book, tells the story of Jason, a soldier returning from war to massive celebrity after the success of his memoir. Yet his close friend, a poet, calls into question the truth of the story told. Jason also seems to have a crush on the poet’s wife.
Is this a case of artistic jealousy, plain jealousy, or something more complex? What’s clear is that this play is destined to run nationally and internationally, with the world premier in Seattle, El Guindi’s hometown. Running from September 6th to 26th at the ACT theater.
