We have a foolproof plan to stay warm this winter: a drink and a seat by the fire. Here are three bars in Chicago with a crackling fireplace and an enticing drink list:
Cindy’s is the scenic rooftop bar of our sister property, the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel. You can enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Michigan through the window-walls, blazing fire pits on the patio, and, of course, a selection of signature cocktails. Come for an aperitif, stay for dinner: Executive Chef Christian Ragano’s menu boasts family-style comfort food.
The Darling is the perfect mix of elegant and wacky, conjuring the retro feel of an old English manor. This two-floor “performance den”—featuring appearances by magicians, drag queens, and dancers—serves some serious libations. Try the Prince of Thieves, which mixes Suntory whisky, Amaro, and matcha tea with ginger and orgeat; or the Lady Macbeth which tops tequila, muddled raspberries, scotch, and crème de cacao with tonic.
Finally, if you’re in the Logan Square area, try Scofflaw, which offers tiled fireplaces, wingback chairs, and a Victorian-salon vibe. The drink list is centered on gin, but other spirits have their place, too.
