New Stones Book Features First Views of Vintage Images

Turning up unpublished images of the world’s most famous rock band is no easy task, but that’s what Mark Hayward has done for his cool new book The Rolling Stones: On Camera, Off Guard 1963-69 (Pavilion, $40). Focusing on the band’s earliest years, their ascent to stardom, and evolving style–before the tragic death of Brian Jones–it features the very first studio photos of the Stones taken for Mirabelle magazine; a trip to Morocco documented by Cecil Beaton; a shaggy Keith Richards with his brand new Bentley; and a rare set of snaps of Mick jumping on a piano at a concert on the Isle of Man in 1965. Along with interviews with many of the photographers, it also includes a DVD of rare footage that’s worth the price of admission on its own.
