With outré producer Brian Eno instructing Talking Heads maestro David Byrne to fill in the pulsating Afro-beat with televangelist spoken-word fervor, and the lead singer utilizing his body like an abused marionette, musical history was made in 1980. And the music-video of “Once in a Lifetime” that followed showed that rockers could have a sense of humor, no matter how dark the lyrical content was. “Same as it ever was,” not.
