L’Amour Fou, a new documentary on the life and 50-year relationship of Yves Saint Laurent, is hitting the Toronto Film Festival this Saturday, and coming soonish to theaters near you.
Known for his fashions that made him one of the legendary couturiers-as well as for his penchant for the nightlife and its excesses–the film by director Pierre Thoretton, however, is said to be more interested in his half-century relationship with his longtime companion Pierre Berge.
St. Laurent died two years ago at age 71. Warhol and Jagger make appearances in old footage, natch. But expect a loving portrait of a one-of-a-kind-the kind we don’t see much of these days, when selling is overtaking artistry, and largesse of life.
