Classic and vintage Americana at Palmer Trading Company in SoHo.
Camp mocs, hand-stitched belts, Woolrich parkas, plaid blankets, brass ashtrays, antique leather chairs, vintage Rolexes – a veritable roll call of covetable objects is now on offer at SoHo’s newest outpost of authentic style, Palmer Trading Company. Opened by a couple of flea market veterans, the well-worn, tightly-packed shop incorporates a lifetime’s worth of great finds along with the kind of clothing you’d wear while searching them out in the wilds of New England. See something you like? Chances are it’s for sale – nearly everything is, including most of the furnishings and fixtures (hands off the dog, though). Paint-by-numbers landscape with six-point buck in foreground? Check. Globes from gramp’s grade school days? Take your pick. An old bear-shaped glass jar that once had someone’s honey in it? Hell yes. The vintage items feature labels describing exactly where the owners found it while odds are they can introduce you to the craftsmen who made everything else. If it’s hip, it’s here.
